The WHYA girls meet every week to read and critique each other's writing. Recently we’ve incorporated brainstorming sessions into our meetings where we hammer out new ideas for books we want to write in the future. All this talk about books we want to write has us thinking about books we want to read.
Here are our wish lists at present:
Stephanie
- a YA Indiana Jones
- a YA novel about the lost city of Atlantis
- a sequel or companion novel to Robin McKinley’s THE BLUE SWORD and THE HERO AND THE CROWN
Sarah
- a contemporary set in Montana with cowboys and horses
- a sci-fi set on another planet
- a sequel to CHIME by Franny Billingsley
Kristan
- a YA Battlestar Galactica
- more stories featuring strong animal bonds/friendships (esp. dogs and horses
- companion novels (but NOT sequels) to SCORPIO RACES (set on Thisby) and HUNGER GAMES (like POVs from other districts)
Ingrid
- a sequel or companion novel to JELLICOE ROAD by Melina Marchetta
- more books with family and sibling relationships that are central to the storyline rather than just subplots
- books about Amish teens
What books would you like to wish into existence?

ReplyDeleteIf there were a companion novel to THE SCORPIO RACES I honestly don't know what I would do with myself. Run down the road screaming with joy, I think. For starters.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely trying to make an appearance of a strong parent/child bond in my WIP because "the absent parent" always irks me.
Still need to read JELLICOE ROAD, and so I look forward to wanting a sequel. (And I'd like to read all of these!)
Hee, I thought about an Atlantis-related one too! And dude, YA Indiana Jones would be brilliant.
ReplyDeleteStephanie-- there actually WAS a YA Indiana Jones series in the 1990s! It was called "Young Indiana Jones," lol. :D They're more like kids books, though.
ReplyDeleteIf you want something more modern, the Guild of Specialists trilogy by Joshua Mowll is pretty Indiana Jones-y. It's got action, adventure, world travel, secret societies, math/history/science, and more! Plus they've got nifty maps/diagrams/illustrations.
Now I wish there were MORE YA Indiana Jones books. Le sigh. (Indiana Jones visiting Atlantis would be AWESOME, actually!)
